Madikwe Game Reserve is a conservation area in South Africa’s North West Province, bordering Botswana. The reserve’s grassland, forest, and rocky Tshwene Tshwene hills are home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, lions, leopards, and rhinos, plus endangered wild dogs. Hundreds of bird species include ostrich, vultures, and the large kori bustard. Animals often gather at the Madikwe Dam to drink at sunset.
Day 1: Gaborone – Madikwe
Gaborone – Madikwe Pickup in Sir Eretse Khama Airport/Gaborone depending on arrival time and overland drive to Madikwe Game Reserve – scheduled stop at the border between Botswana and South Africa. Enter the park and check in at the luxury lodge. Early Afternoon Own time – High tea, light lunch, explore underground hide/bushwalk on the private trail, watch waterhole activities, Late Afternoon 3-hour Game drive in open side land cruiser (includes stop for sun-downer drinks, leg stretch)Evening Freshen up, drinks, dinner and own time
Day 2: Madikwe
Madikwe Early morning, meet for light refreshments, and tea/coffee followed by a 3-hour Game drive in an open land cruiser (tea/coffee stop en route)Morning Breakfast at leisure Own time – swimming, sunbathing, underground hide, walking trails, or watching the waterhole Early afternoon – high tea and light lunch, Late Afternoon 3-hour Game drive in open side land cruiser (includes a stop for sun-downer drinks, leg stretch)Evening Freshen up, drinks, dinner and own time
