KNOW MORE ABOUT CHOBE NATIONAL PARK BEFORE YOU VISIT THERE:
Famed for its massive elephant populations, big herds of buffalo (matched only by some large lion pride), and incredible birdlife, Chobe National Park will leave an everlasting memory. The landscapes of Chobe National Park are something else. It is a great way to discover a little piece of Botswana
Chobe National Park is a true wildlife paradise and one of the best national parks in Southern Africa. Just one peek at the variety of wildlife and lush vegetation and you will be mesmerized forever!
The gateway to Chobe is Kasane, a small town near the borders of Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Namibia. Kasane accommodation offers hotels, tented camps, and luxury lodge accommodations. Guests can transfer from Kasane to their respective accommodations in and around Chobe National Park. Accommodation in the park includes wild unfenced camping, eco-lodges, tented camps, and luxury lodges.
Chobe National Park is extremely lush because of the many waterways. The Chobe River flows through the park and draws many animals and birds during the dry season. Boat cruises and game drives along the river are very popular. The natural environment of the park allows for excellent photographic experiences.
WHEN TO VISIT
The drastic changes in vegetation between the dry months and wet months mean that many animals migrate, the most famous being the zebra migration. The abundance of wildlife makes this park an awesome place to visit year-round. The breathtaking sunsets, the many waterways, and the variety of landscapes all make Chobe unforgettable.
BEST WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS
August to October
You will see more animals during the dry, hot months, especially around the river, as all the wildlife flock to the water. This is the best time to spot lions, giraffes, and buffalo. You can find a large number of elephants in the Linyanti region during these months. Hippos, impala, baboons, blue wildebeest, kudu, warthog, vervet monkeys, and many other animals can be found year-round.
BEST FOR BIRD WATCHING
December to March
This is the wet season and bird sightings increase as migrants move in. Over 450 bird species have been documented in the park.
HIGH SEASON
July to October
The park is the most popular with tourists and ample wildlife can be seen around the rivers. There are fewer mosquitoes in July and August.
